War. We are weary of it. We have seen too many of our brave and loyal people killed and maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And now President Obama wants to strike Syria militarily to punish the government for gassing their people. Meanwhile, the rebels beheaded a Catholic priest. We are supporting their efforts in this civil war. What is wrong with this picture? A lot.
Pope Francis has called for a day of prayer and fasting on Saturday, September 7, 2013 for world peace
. Not only is there threat for escalation of violence with U.S. involvement, but so much has taken place already. The Middle East is such a volatile part of the world. Many men, women and children fear for their lives every day. So many have already suffered and died.
God can, and does, work miracles through the power of prayer. Imagine what can happen when the whole world comes together to fast and pray for peace.
Please spend time praying for world peace on Saturday, and fast if you can. We know what inner chaos is and possibly even what threats to our lives are. I don’t think any of us can imagine what the lives of the people in the war zones must be like, or what they will be like of the United States starts lobbing missles into their land.
